Three weeks ago I arrived in Lucerne, Switzerland.
While I have always considered my job to be as close to an eternal holiday as it gets (because I love it), the reason for my visit was to participate in the Adventure Travel Trade Association, ATTA, Annual Summit where Amity Tours has been a member for the past year.
My wife asked me, how it went? And after still being in post Switzerland shock, I simply said “extraordinary”!!
Then, when the shock was gone, I wondered why the first thing that came to mind was “extraordinary” and these are my 5 conclusions:
First: Above all things, it was the humble and professional qualities of the people I met. The humble qualities reflected in the concern for others, knowing them or not, and the professionalism demonstrated in the conversations I had with other tour operators who sell cycling, skiing and hiking products just like us. A part from this, there were the people who work in ATTA, whose enthusiasm and energy create a conducive environment to showcase the best of us, they are fantastic!
Second: ATTA partner companies. In our case this kind of event becomes a unique opportunity to reach out with our offers to new customers, allowing us to build a relationship of trust that is essential in our industry. We all wish for other actions a “ROI”, like the one participating in the Summit!
Third: The knowledge gained by participating in the talks. While you have access to that information through various means, to listen to those who lead the major issues that directly affect the industry is important! Then to have a beer with them and talk in a more laid back manner is priceless!
Fourth: To realize that the work our country is doing (and this must happen to many people who come from “small” countries) abroad is paying off, marking a major presence at such events, we can only be proud. Seeing the promotional video of Chile in the main hall of Lucerne, can be emotional. (see here)
Fifth: Switzerland … the memories…and I’m back in shock!
